About us

We are an active congregation of youth, singles, young families, empty nesters, and senior citizens. We are a member of the Metro New York Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.  Opportunities abound for all who wish to worship Christ the Lord with gladness. Come, visit, and experience the warmth and vibrancy of Christ’s Spirit alive within us.

The turmoil in Europe in the middle of the 19th century sent a stream of German immigrants to America. The business possibilities of Rondout, then a thriving port and commercial center, drew many to the Kingston area. They brought the Lutheran faith and soon established a church which ministered to them in their native tongue.

Redeemer sprang from a local need of the new generation’s desire to worship in English. The first congregational meeting was held on February 24th, 1897, the first service on February 25th, and the congregation was incorporated on March 26th. The cornerstone for the building that is now Redeemer was laid in 1912 and was dedicated in 1913. Our 100th Anniversary and “Christ Our Cornerstone” campaign brought renewal to Redeemer’s buildings, grounds, and spirit, and sent us “On Our Way Rejoicing” into a new century of local and global discipleship.
